May 7 | Psalm 139:4-6
“For before a word is on my tongue behold, Oh Lord, You know all of it. You hem me in behind and before, and lay Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me. It is too high. I cannot comprehend it.” (Psalm 139:4–6)
We have different levels of knowledge. We know people as friends, acquaintances, or strangers. I have close family and friends who know me the most, acquaintances who know certain areas of me, facts about people from a distance, and strangers I don’t know at all.
God knows you, a knowledge unmatched by family and friends. He knows what you will say before you speak. He knows what you will do before you do it. You can keep your thoughts from others, but not God.
He is sovereign over the universe, but gives you free will to make your own decisions. He honors your decisions. There are so many things you don’t know about Him, that you must learn through intimate relationship.
God protects you from dangers. He hems you in. He may keep you from what you want to do. He lays His hand on you, sometimes for discipline, and sometimes blessing. It depends on what you need at the time. Do you enjoy His blessing, but resent His discipline?
Action Step: Do you thank the Lord for His intimate knowledge of you? Or do you see Him as an intruder? He uses His knowledge for your benefit. Accept His discipline and blessing, for it is all for your benefit.
Heavenly Father, thank You that You watch over me. I appreciate that You know my thoughts, for You can keep me on the path that honors and glorifies You. I want to please You in my thought life. No one else can know and guide me so perfectly.
