God’s Everywhere Presence

May 8 | Psalm 139:7-12

“Where shall I go from your Spirit? And where can I run from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there. And if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. If I am lifted up by the wings of the morning and settle in the end parts of the sea, even there your hand leads me and your right hand holds me. Then I say, “Surely the darkness will cover me.” And the light around me will be night, even the darkness is not darkness for you and night is like day” (Psalm 139:7–12)

Have you ever met someone that drives you nuts because they won’t leave you alone? They’re always calling you. They show up everywhere you go. They have a sixth sense about where you will be next. You can’t get away from them to save your life.

God is like that for us. He’s only annoying if you don’t know him. One preacher called him, “The Hound of Heaven.” He shows up everywhere so you realize how much he cares for you and wants you to be one of his children..

But we believers love the fact that he is only a prayer away. God is never far from us. From the pilot high above the clouds to the scuba diver in the depths of the ocean, we take God with us.

Despite your situation Jesus walks with you. His Spirit dwells in you. He feels every pain, sees every injustice, hears every thinly veiled threat against you. Your path may be dark but Jesus lights your path.

Action Step: Cry out to Jesus in the midst of your pain. He understands more than anyone. He is with you and will never leave you. Embrace him and he will lead you.

Jesus, you are my Friend who sticks closer than a brother. I’m so glad I don’t walk this path alone. Guide me by your Spirit and bring me to a place of joy that the world can’t take away.
