Understanding Spiritual Truths

October 30 | 1 Corinthians 2:12-13

“Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God so that we might understand the things God’s graciously given to us, which we also speak not in words taught by human wisdom, but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to spiritual people.
(1 Corinthians 2:12–13)

I love listening to foreign languages. I don’t understand them very well, but I enjoy watching how other cultures and languages communicate. I’d probably like them even more if I could understand them.

Paul talks about languages in a different way. The Holy Spirit helps us to understand spiritual truths in spiritual language. People who don’t know Jesus cannot understand spiritual truths. Their minds are darkened toward the things of God.

They think God’s wisdom is foolishness. But God’s wisdom created the world, and by it we see spiritual victories. Some Christians do not understand spiritual truths as well as they should. The writer of Hebrews says he wanted to teach the meat of the faith, but they could only consume milk.

You must grow to understand and practice spiritual truths. The Spirit teaches you everything you need to know to succeed. The greatest spiritual truth is growing deeper in the Lord and knowing Jesus more.

Action Step: Grow closer to the Spirit, and you will grow in understanding spiritual truths. It’s the best way to know God’s playbook for winning spiritual battles and pleasing Him.

Holy Spirit, thank You for teaching me the deeper things of God. I want to grow closer to You today. Show me spiritual truths and help me to understand them and practice them in my life.
