In God’s Image

May 5 | Genesis 1:27-28

“So God created man in his image, and in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”” (Genesis 1:27–28)

Many scientists and naturalists today teach the ideas of evolution and natural selection. These have ideas such as humans evolving from animals and classifying humans as mammals. But the Bible says we are special to God and he made a distinction between us and animals.

God placed his image in you. Because you bear his image, you have dignity and deserve respect. More than that, God blessed you and called you to be fruitful and multiply. He gave you the earth and everything in it.

There are many ideas of what it means to bear the image of God. He gave you a spiritual nature, the greatest gift that allows you to know him and have a relationship with him. Just as he is sovereign over creation, he gave you dominion over the earth. You must find a balance between destroying your environment and not taking dominion over it.

His image was tainted by sin but Jesus redeemed you and made you a new creature in his image. He cares deeply about you. He knows about everything in your life and knows you better than you know yourself.

Action Step: Worship the Lord and thank him that you have a spiritual connection with him. Talk to God throughout the day and think about his blessings poured out on you.

Heavenly Father, thank you for making me in your image. I am so glad I have a spirit and can fellowship with you every day. Teach me to steward this beautiful environment you made for me. I praise your name for your many blessings.
