June 5 | Jonah 4:6

“Now the Lord God appointed a plant and made it come up over Jonah to be shade for his head, to save him from his misery. So Jonah rejoiced because of the plant, greatly rejoicing.” (Jonah 4:6)
I don’t get angry very often, especially against God. Everybody gets angry in their own way. Some people have a long fuse and explode. Others are angry all the time. Some people give you the silent treatment.
Jonah was angry at God for at least a day. His reason for being angry didn’t make much sense. When God saved the Ninevites from His wrath Jonah stormed out of the city and sat there, brooding over God’s grace.
His God relented from bringing His wrath against Jonah’s enemies. Wasn’t He on Jonah’s side? People have different reasons for getting angry at God. But they come from our limited human perspective.
God could’ve become angry and brought His wrath on jonah. Instead, God comforted him and provided a plant for shade against the blistering sun. Only God feeds us with grace when we hurl our hostility at Him.
God has broad shoulders and takes care of you when you don’t realize it. His love for you extends beyond your limited understanding. Some day you will look back and see His purposes.
Action Step: When you are angry at God, no matter how justified you feel, God will not abandon you. He brings His comfort even when He is the target of your anger. Thank God for His understanding.
Jesus, thank You for always being there, even when I am not a good friend to You. You understand me better than anyone. Show me Your purpose in this trial and time in my life. I am glad You never forsake me.
