Don’t Rob God

October 8 | Malachi 3:10

Daily Bread

“Bring all the tithe into the storehouse, that there will be food in My house. Then surely test Me in this, says the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and empty out to you a blessing until there is no more need.>” (Malachi 3:10)

When I talk about money from the pulpit, I get all kinds of pushback. One person even talked to me in the back of the sanctuary after service about tithing. They wanted to argue the percentage. What makes us think we have the right to challenge God when He commands us to do something? After all Jesus has done for us there’s no need to question Him. When people don’t obey God it’s to their detriment.

The Israelites were robbing God when they didn’t bring the full tithe into the storehouse. Did they not realize God used those resources to bless them? God doesn’t need your money. He is teaching you to rely on Him.

Tithing is a spiritual exercise to test how much you trust God to provide all your needs. You are not living on 90% of your income. You don’t live on bread alone but on His very words.

When God asks you to trust Him, He promises that He will pour out blessing when you follow through and obey Him. Your sacrifice (if you can call it that) opens the door to God’s blessing in your life.

Action Step: Train yourself to give to God. Whether it’s your money, time, talents, or any other resources, it opens the door of God’s blessing in your life.

Jesus, give me the right spirit in the area of giving. No matter what You ask of me I will give generously and cheerfully. I know You provide for all my needs and I trust in You implicitly.
