Willing to Serve

Day 2: Prayer Focus: Church Elders, Ministry Leaders, Ministry Volunteers | Ephesians 1:16-17

I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.” (Ephesians 1:16–17)

Today, we lift up our leadership team and ministry leaders. Like pastors, they choose to serve God’s people. Nobody is twisting their arm. They come alongside the pastors and help lift their ministry load and responsibilities. Ask any pastor how they feel about their ministry team, and they will probably sing their praises.

Paul prayed for the elders of the church of Ephesus. He saw them as a special group of people who ministered to the city church. Elders and spiritual leaders don’t get paid for their service. They are acknowledged from time to time, but most who minister in the background don’t want to be put in the spotlight. So I’ll do it for them today.

I can’t count how many times I relied on my board members for different things. I was grateful for one of my first board members to have keys to the parsonage. I’m usually great at my morning routine, especially putting my wallet and keys in my pocket. But there were a couple of days he had to come to the parsonage to let me in after I locked myself out.

We don’t always think about the little things ministry leaders do for the pastors and for us. They take on burdens they don’t have to. They serve us in the things we will never know they did. None of them list the things they had to do for us. But they bless us abundantly. And they deserve our prayers and a “Thank you” every once in a while from us. We can lift them up before Jesus regularly.
