Take the Sword

October 24 | Ephesians 6:17; Hebrews 4:12

“and take the…the sword of the Spirit, which is God’s Word” (Ephesians 6:17)

“For God’s Word is living and active and sharper than every double-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, joints and marrow, able to discern the ideas and insights of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

Many Americans have not been involved in war. We thank God for those who protect us in the military and police. Every Christian is called to spiritual battle. We are not left to figure out how to fight on our own. God gives us tools to fight the battles in spiritual realms.

A great weapon of our warfare is the sword of the Spirit. God’s Word is an offensive weapon that strikes at the heart of the kingdoms of this world and the enemy of our souls. The Spirit takes the Word in us and gives us the wisdom to wield this sword in every battle we face.

The Bible is a strategic weapon. It’s a powerful, sharp weapon. You must know how to wield it in battle. It is so sharp it separates even the closest parts. Prepare yourself to use the sword in battle. The devil knows Scripture, so you must know God’s Word and how to use it effectively.

Action Step: Like any soldier you must be familiar with your weapon. Read, study, and memorize the Bible. Understand the context of the verses you memorize. Prepare yourself to wield God’s Word in battle against the evil spiritual forces in this world.

Jesus, teach me Your Word and help me understand and apply it to my life. I want to know you more and use the sword of the Spirit. Prepare me to do battle for Your Kingdom. I am hiding Your Word in my heart daily.
