September 27 | John 19:26-27
“So Jesus, seeing his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, “Dear woman, behold your son,” then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.” (John 19:26–27)
In the midst of His own pain and anguish Jesus took a moment to take care of His mother. Though He was suffering He saw John and Mary weeping as they watched Him die on the Cross. Jesus fulfilled His duty as the oldest son, taking care of His mother’s needs in His absence.
Even in death Jesus made plans to take care of Mary. He entrusted His precious mother to John, the disciple He loved. Because He would no longer be with them Jesus passed His responsibility to care for His mother on to John.
All of Jesus’ worldly goods were being divided up among soldiers. The special garment with new seems was so valuable they kept the garment together as they gambled for His clothing. Before He died Jesus wanted to complete the task of caring for Mary.
In the moments where Jesus provides for your need take the time to enjoy the fact that He cares for you. He is interested in His ministry to you. He is passing on the work He has made for you. Realize His provision and do not take it lightly.
Action Step: Enjoy Jesus’ presence and provision in your life. Don’t let this intimate moment pass by. Remain in His presence and soak in His compassion and mercy toward you.
Jesus, thank You for Your presence and provision. I seek you for all my needs. But I want You more than the things You provide. Help me see You in Your glory. I want to focus on the things that matter.
