August 6 | John 14:12-14
“Truly, truly I am saying to you, the one who trusts in Me, the works that I am doing, that one will do even greater works than these because I am going to the Father, and whatever you may ask in My name this I will do, in order that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.”” (John 14:12–14)
Every father wants his children to do better than he did. Fathers work hard to set their children up for success. Through their example, teaching, and sacrifice they opened doors for their children to walk through.
Jesus declared that faith in Him opens the door to doing greater works than Jesus. This could mean to do more extraordinary works. But it’s more probable that Jesus referred to great works like His, but more of them than He did.
Since Jesus was going to the Father and leaving earth, He only did so many works. But the Church of His disciples is doing more works. Your faith in Jesus gives you the power through Him to do His great works.
But you do greater works because you ask Jesus for great things. You must ask in faith and that is why we do His great works. He is your Source for those great works. Jesus promises that you will receive whatever you ask in His name. You can take that promise to the bank in faith.
Action Step: It takes faith to ask anything in Jesus’ name. When you ask Him for great things He will do great things through you.
Lord Jesus, I humbly come to You and ask You for Your power to work in me. I want to do great things for You. I want to show people Your power and glory. For the sake of Your Kingdom show Your power through me as I point people to You.
