Eyes of Faith

August 11 | 2 Kings 6:16-17

“And he said, “Don’t you see that greater are those who are with us than those who are with them?” Then Elisha prayed and said, “Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the young man’s eyes and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire surrounding Elisha.” (2 Kings 6:16–17)

Since I am legally blind I have a hard time seeing things that are sometimes right in front of my face. I search for hours looking for them only to realize how close I was to them. I’m sure you’ve had this happen to you also.

Elisha’s servant was afraid of the impending Syrian army all around them. He wanted to use human solutions like running away or hiding. We all tend to look for these solutions because we see the physical realm first.

Jesus calls you to see the spiritual realm and the overwhelming support and power He has for you. When Elisha prayed for the servant’s eyes to be opened he saw a vast array of chariots of fire that God had prepared to defend Elisha.

After that he was no longer afraid of the physical situation. How many times do you look at the physical realm instead of the spiritual realm? Have you tried to come up with your own resources and solutions instead of appealing to God?

Action Step: Pray and ask God to open your eyes to the spiritual realm. Don’t look to your own resources. See how God is protecting, providing for, and guiding you.

Jesus, open my eyes to see Your spiritual realm all around me. I know You are protecting me, guiding me, and providing for my every need. I will not fear people or circumstances. I look to You and Your solutions.
