The Hero of Your Story

November 25 | Ephesians 2:8-10

Daily Bread

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves, it is God’s gift,, not by works so that no one can boast. For we are God’s creative work, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we might walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:8-10)

In America, we live by the individual code. We like stories about people who started from nothing and made something of themselves. We are inspired by the rugged individual who refuses to accept the hand they are dealt.

This causes us to think we have to work hard for everything we get. Nothing comes freely. We only have what we can get for ourselves. Jacob lived this life. He thought he had to deceive others to get ahead. He had to earn everything he could get.

We could never receive God’s blessings by our own merit. We disqualify ourselves very early in life. That’s why we must receive God’s grace by faith. We have to humbly trust that Jesus paid the price for us. We have to rely on Him.

None of us can boast about our salvation. Jesus did it all. That is hard for us to swallow sometimes. Do you ever question if God’s grace is enough? It seems like a fairytale, a far-fetched story of God’s goodness. And yet, it’s true. But the hero of our story isn’t us. It’s Jesus. You are God’s handiwork, His work of art.

Action Step: Tell your story of Jesus’s grace in your life. Make Him the hero of your story. Show God’s grace to others.

Oh glorious Jesus, You have one the victory for me. You are my Hero, and I live to glorify You! I went to live a life that pleases You. Show me how to do that. I will tell everyone about Your grace.
