Lean on the Lord

November 1 | Psalm 40:1-3

“I waited patiently for the Lord and He reached out to me, and He heard my cry for help. Then He brought me up from the pit, from the miry mud and set my feet upon the rock, making my steps secure. Then He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and will trust in the Lord.” (Psalm 40:1–3)

Many people have played the “trust game.” Someone stands behind you and if you are me, you close your eyes, and begin to slowly fall backward. Unless they are extremely mean they catch you in their arms before you fall to the ground.

So much of our world stands on a sandy foundation. The Bible says that everything that can be shaken will be shaken. You cannot put your trust in anything in this world. Politicians fail, economies collapse, and it seems every person with a cause comes out of the woodwork.

Patience is not a worldly value. But when you learn to patiently wait on the Lord great things happen. The Lord picks you up out of the miry clay. When your world is collapsing all around you the Lord takes you up out of those situations.

Jesus takes you out of the sandy foundations of the world in places you on His rock, His firm foundation. Everywhere you walk is safe. You can freely praise your faithful God and trust in His provision and protection.

Action Step: Sing a new song to the Lord for His blessings and goodness to you. Put all your trust in Jesus. Don’t seek your own resources or means. Lean on Jesus.

Jesus, when hard times come and the clouds grow dark I run to You. You are my Refuge, my Fortress. I place my trust solely in You. Rescue me from this storm and place me in the palm of Your hand.
