God’s Unfailing Mercy

June 3 | Jonah 3:10

Daily Bread

“When God saw their actions, indeed they turned from their evil way, then God relented from the calamity that He declared to do to them, and He did not carry it out.” (Jonah 3:10)

Everybody changes their mind. Sometimes we do it because of new information or a fresh perspective. Maybe we are fickle, and want to try something different. But when God changes His mind it changes lives.

God sent Jonah to tell the Ninevites what He was about to do. Jonah relished proclaiming that God would destroy them. God would wipe his enemies off the face of the earth. He warmed up to that message. But when Jonah proclaimed got the message, the Ninevites repented. There was a massive revival going on in Nineveh. They had godly sorrow, weeping over their sin and putting their sinful ways behind them.

Anytime revival happens, God reacted in incredible ways. He changed His mind about destroying the Ninevites. He accepted their repentance and relented from His coming judgment. He does the same thing every time you repent from your sin and turn back to Him.

God hears you when you cry out to Him. Every time you embrace your relationship with Him, He comes to you like the father in the parable of the prodigal son. Prayer can change God’s mind.

Action Step: Whether you approach God to confess sin, or asks for Him to do His will in your life, He is listening and responds with mercy and grace. Seek the Lord in prayer for whatever you need today.

Heavenly Father, I come into Your presence and kneel before Your throne. I ask You for miracles, strength for trials, and wisdom to know Your will in my situations. Thank You for hearing and answering me.
