Dwelling with God

July 10 | Revelation 21:2-4

Daily Bread

“Then I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, having been prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Then I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, God’s tent dwelling is with humanity, and He will tabernacle with them, and they will be His people and He himself will be there God with them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, nor will there be mourning nor wailing nor pain anymore. The former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:2–4)

The anticipation has been driving you crazy for weeks. You’ve been looking forward to this. But that anticipation can sour your experience. You put it on such a high pedestal the actual experience lets you down.

But experiencing your inheritance in the New Jerusalem will not disappoint. John describes God’s dwelling place with His people forever, a city where you live with other believers and Jesus. But it is also the people of God adorned like a bride.

New Jerusalem will be beautiful, adorned for God. But living with God forever is the greatest part. God declares throughout Scripture, “I will be their God and they will be my people.” Finally, the moment has arrived!

God will wipe away every tear. No matter what you weep for, the loss of unsaved loved ones, and the pain and suffering of sickness and death, God comforts you. He makes sure you never suffer like that again.

Action Step: Imagine what the New Jerusalem is going to be like. Dream of that day when you arrive at your eternal home. What will it be like to be with Jesus forever?

Jesus, I’m really looking forward to being with You for eternity. I know You walk with me now in my pain and suffering, and I am so thankful You will comfort be and take it away forever. I can’t wait to come home.
