An Open Door

June 25 | Revelation 3:8

Daily Bread

“I know your works. Behold, I have appointed an open door, which no one is able to shut. You have little power, but you kept My word and did not deny My name..” (Revelation 3:8)

I have been watching a lot of baseball in the summer season. When the pitcher duels out three straight balls the announcers usually talk about if that batter as a “green light.” A player with a green light means their manager is okay with them swinging at the next pitch. It will only cost them one strike.

For only the second time during His evaluation of the seven churches Jesus has nothing bad to say about the church in Philadelphia. They have been faithful stewards of the gospel, so Jesus presents them with a ministry opportunity, an open door.

They have kept His Word, and not denied His name. They haven’t allowed the world to creep in. They patiently endure tribulations, waiting for Jesus’s return. He rewards them by sparing them from the trials coming on the earth.

Jesus will make you a pillar in His heavenly temple when you stand for Him despite persecution and tribulation. You keep His Word and do not deny His name. It’s not easy when others revile and slander you.

Action Step: Keep the faith and be faithful to Him. No matter what people do to you, stand for Christ in a world of indecision.

Lord Jesus, give me the strength to stand for You. I want to honor Your Word and Your name even though others around me profane them. Give me Your grace to love those who hate You.
