The Lord, He Is God

September 10 | 1 Kings 18:38-39

Daily Bread

“Then the fire of the lord fell and consumed the sacrifice and the wood and the stones and the dust and licked up the water which was in the trench. And when all the people saw it they fell on their faces and said, “The Lord, He is God. The Lord, He is God.”” (1 Kings 18:38–39)

Spiritual victories are a blessing from the Lord. But they are not For us. They glorify Him. The battle belongs to the Lord, and He receives the glory. We experience the victory with Him.

Elijah faced off with the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. They battled to know who was the true God of Israel. Elijah was first. He built an altar and doused it with water over and over in the middle of a drought.

Surely it’s impossible for a drenched alter to catch fire. Elijah asked God to show Israel who the true God is. Fire came down from heaven and consumed the altar. Nothing was left! God showed Himself true.

Now it was the prophets of Baal’s turn. They did everything they could from praying to even cutting themselves to get their god’s attention. But nothing seemed to work. Elijah taunted them. When you know you’re the winner of the battle you can boast in the Lord.

Nothing happened from the god of the weather. Baal failed. In your biggest spiritual battles lien on the Lord and you will see victory. Israel realized they were following a false god. They turned back to the Lord.

Action Step: Stand up to your mountain trial today and see God’s victory in your life. Don’t give the devil an inch. Declare the Lord alone is God.

Jesus, You are Lord of my life. I give myself to You and ask You for victory over my trial. Come down on my mountain of trouble with fire and melt it to pieces. I Praise You for the victory You grant to me.
