Light of the World

August 16 | John 8:12

Daily Bread

“Then Jesus spoke again and said to them, “I am the light of the world. The one following Me will never walk in darkness, rather, this one will have the light of life.”” (John 8:12)

You can’t see anything without light. God designed your eyes to work with light. That’s why you can’t see in the dark. We see colors because of different temperatures of light. It’s amazing how God has made our eyes.

But your eyes aren’t the only thing that need light to work. Jesus describes Himself as divine with this “I am” statement. He shows Himself to us as the Light. We stumble in blindness until we see Jesus. Without Him, he would never find your way.

Your spirit needs Jesus’s Light to find your way home. Jesus brings you life through His Light. He lights the way to Himself because He is everything you need. He does more than that. He is the righteousness your soul needs. First John 1:5 says God is light. He is righteous. Light and darkness represent righteousness and wickedness. Jesus gives His righteousness to you because your righteousness pales in comparison.

His light guides you into righteousness that opens the door to relationship with Him. You walk by His righteousness. He lights the way to a life that pleases God. He reveals Himself to you every day.

Action Step: Listen to Jesus’s voice. Follow His light to glorify and please God. Stay in relationship with Jesus by obeying His Spirit.

Jesus, thank You for Your light that makes me righteous. I rejoice in knowing You. Continue to reveal Yourself to me as I grow deeper in You. May Your light in me grow brighter as I serve You.
