Legacy of Faith

“And Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years, and had other sons and daughters. So all the days of Enoch were 365. And Enoch walked with God, and he was not, because God took him.” (Genesis 5:22–24)

Scripture is full of people of faith, but not many had as intimate a relationship with God as Adam, Enoch, Abraham, Moses, and David. They were so close to God that Hebrew expresses it in attention-grabbing words. Moses spoke to God face-to-face (literally mouth-to-mouth). David had a heart after God’s own heart. Adam and Enoch walked with God. These were men worthy of the name, “Friend of God.”

Enoch left a legacy of faith like none other. People lived for a long time before the flood. But Enoch has one of the shortest entries in the genealogies. God cut short his life of 365 years. There’s no more information on how that happened.

For the first 300 years of His life, Methuselah watched his father walk with God. The way the text reads, Enoch just disappears. God took Enoch because the world was not worthy of him. Look at his son’s life

It must be because of Enoch’s walk with God that Methuselah is the oldest living human being on the earth, at 969 years old. Why was His life so long? He understood how to walk with God. Whose life are you affecting for God’s Kingdom?

Action Step: Live in a manner worthy of Jesus. Affect the next generation for God’s Kingdom. Find someone younger in the faith to mentor.

Jesus, teach me to make disciples for Your Kingdom. I want to leave a godly legacy for others to follow. Make me effective as a teacher and discipler. Fill my character with integrity and godliness.
