What’s Your Price?

April 1 | Matthew 26:15

“Judas said, “What will you give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver.” (Matthew 26:15)

Everyone wants to think they are not for sale. But if you are asked by a billionaire number after number, would you cave? Your mind begins to wander. You start thinking of what you could do with the money.

These are dangerous thoughts for disciples of Jesus. Judas thought he was between a rock and a hard place. He may have been a zealot, one of the people looking for a Messiah who would become a military general to get Rome out of Palestine.

When Jesus talked about his kingdom not being of this world, Judas was getting cold feet. There would be no revolution. There would be no glory in battle. And there be no freedom from the Roman Empire.

Nobody knows why Judas found his price. Slaves in Israel were sold for thirty pieces of silver. Perhaps without realizing it, Judas just sold Jesus out as a slave to the religious leaders. We must not have a price to betray Jesus.

How do you see Jesus? He won’t fit into your mold. Jesus defines himself, and we serve him loyally. Even if persecution comes, as one of my mentors said, “You can’t scare a Christian with death.”

Action Step: Resolve in your heart and mind to never betray Jesus, to always walk with him no matter how rough the road gets. Don’t give the enemy and inch of ground in your commitment to Jesus.

King Jesus, you are my God and my Lord. Give me the strength to withstand any attack of the enemy, any persecution of the world, and any thought or desire to turn from you. Keep my eyes focused solely on you.
