April 14 | 1 Corinthians 2:14-16
“Another the natural person does not accept the things of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand because they are spiritually discerned, but the spiritual person discerns all things, but no one can judge him. For who knows the mind of the Lord to instruct Him? But we ourselves have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:14–16)
There are battles all around you. From the battle of ideas to spiritual battles, everyone wants you to be on their side. It’s one of the first things they ask when they are having an argument. “Whose side are you on?”
Paul describes the difference between spiritual wisdom and natural wisdom. Those who have God’s Spirit dwelling in them understand spiritual truths. They do things God’s way, but most people don’t understand that. They think spiritual approaches are foolish.
Your friends and family who are not filled with God’s Spirit are not going to understand your decisions. They don’t understand why you don’t cut corners. They can’t make sense of your “Spirit speak.” They don’t know why you serve God, especially when you experience persecution and suffering.
But they can’t judge you. Only God can judge you, and he’s the one who saved you instead. You must keep on this path, listening to the Holy Spirit and doing what he says. People who don’t have God’s Spirit in them won’t understand.
Action Step: Stay on the path the Spirit is leading you to follow. Remain teachable to the Spirit and obedient. Listen to him. He is leading you on an eternal path, one your friends and family won’t understand unless they know Jesus. Seek counsel from other Christians and God’s Word.
Lord Jesus, you have given me your Spirit. I listen to everything you say, even when it doesn’t make sense to others. Keep me strong in the path you have chosen. Don’t let me be influenced or swayed by those who don’t know you.
