March 31 | Luke 10:41-42
“But the Lord answered her, saying, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but little is necessary, or one thing, for Mary chose the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”” (Luke 10:41–42)
I get distracted easily. I can be working on a project and not realize I have neglected things much more important than the current task. Martha was running around to check in with her head cut off. She was looking for some help.
Is that Martha’s ministry wasn’t important. She was probably a type A personality. Every little thing had to be in the proper place. She was running herself ragged trying to do what she thought Jesus wanted her to do.
How many times in your life have you mistaken quantity over quality, or thought you were doing what God wanted you to do only to find out you were just following rabbit trails? We must first focus on God’s expectations for us.
Do you have a vibrant relationship with Jesus right now? Have you let your First Love fall by the wayside? What’s your passion for Jesus? Listen to his Spirit and Word. They are life to you. Major in the majors. We must always put our relationship with Jesus on the top shelf.
Action Step: Mary chose the greater portion, to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen to him. Being in God’s presence is your number one priority today. Don’t let everything around you distract you from the prize of chasing after Christ.
Jesus, I seek you with my whole heart. I’m pushing my distractions and things of this world aside. Yours is the greater portion in my life. I’m here for you. Honor me with your special presence today.
