Salvation Seal

February 1 | Ephesians 1:13-14

“in whom also you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also when you believed having been sealed with the promised Holy Spirit who is the down payment of our inheritance until the redemption of possession to the praise of his glory.” (Ephesians 1:13–14)

Almost any big purchase you by requires a guarantee. Everything from homes to cars make you prove you can pay for the item with a down payment. The value of these things is so high that most people can’t just buy them outright.

When you met Jesus, God placed his holy spirit in you. You were sealed with the Holy Spirit whom God promised. This isn’t a Tupperware seal. It’s more like the wax seal that carries the image of the King’s signet ring.

It shows the king’s authority. In the same way, Jesus put his seal on you, showing his authority and ownership of you in salvation. But the seal is the Holy Spirit. He is the sign of Jesus’ authority.

My favorite part is that the Holy Spirit is a down payment to us. He’s a foretaste of what heaven will be like. We receive the presence of God in the Holy Spirit upon our lives. And this is just the beginning. He has so much more to do in your life!

Action Steps: Thank God for the promise of the Holy Spirit. You have God’s presence dwelling in you. Get to know the Holy Spirit today. He does so much in your life from helping you hear God’s voice to making your holy to giving you gifts to serve God.

Holy Spirit, thank you that you have sealed my life, that you are my authority from Jesus. Teach me today how to serve Jesus better. Give me opportunities to use the gifts and fruit you’ve cultivated in my life. Speak your words of life through me to everyone around me.
