July 12 | 1 Samuel 17:34-36

“But David said to Saul, “Your servant was shepherding sheep for his father, and a lion came, or a bear, and took a lamb from the flock, and I went after him and struck it and rescued him from its mouth. And if it arose against me, I caught it by its beard and struck it and killed it. Both the lion and the bear your servant has struck to death, and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them because he mocks the armies of the living God.”” (1 Samuel 17:34–36)

Have you ever met a person with true passion? Nothing can stop them. They go after their goal with singular focus. They don’t give up, and do whatever it takes.

David’s passion for the Lord made him refuse to let King Saul keep him from avenging the Lord. Saul gave him all the reasons why he shouldn’t face Goliath. But Goliath had challenged the Lord and his armies.

God selected David to be king of Israel after Saul for good reason. Saul should have faced Goliath. But he had no passion for the Lord. He would not defend the Lord or Israel. And he was afraid to send a little boy in his place.

But David was decisive. He didn’t even think about losing the battle. As far as he was concerned the Lord would defend his name through David. All the Lord needed was a passionate and willing servant. How do you show your passion for God today?

Action Step: Don’t be afraid to face your giants. Your passion for the Lord gives you the focus to defeat your enemies. The Lord fights for you.

Lord Jesus, thank you that you are victorious in my battles. You stand and fight for me. You give me courage to take down every challenge. I praise you, the Divine Warrior who never lost a battle and won’t start now.
