My God Provides

June 27 | Genesis 28:20-21

“Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God,” (Genesis 28:20–21, ESV)

Every time I go on a long trip I start the trip with prayer. I ask the Lord to protect me and everyone traveling with me. It gives me comfort to know that the Lord is traveling with me.

When Jacob began his trip to visit Laban his uncle he made a vow to make Yahweh his God if he provided for him. We know from his story that God did exactly that. God provides for his people.

God is always with us. He never leaves or forsakes us. His presence goes before us as he leads and protects us along the way. Just like the Israelites in the wilderness who followed the pillar of the cloud by day and fire by night, God guides us with his presence.

Jacob asked the Lord to provide all of his needs from food to clothing. God always provides for us. Even when we wonder if he is providing he gives us what we need. He provided clothing for the Israelites in the wilderness that didn’t wear out for 40 years. And Jesus says if God provides for sparrows and flowers he knows our needs and provides for them.

Action Step: Ask the Lord to provide for all your needs. Trust that he will come through for you. He is the Lord your Provider.

Heavenly Father, I know you provide all of my needs. Thank you for your provision for your grace, my basic needs, and most of all that you feed my spirit with your Word. I lack nothing because of your faithfulness.
