July 11 | 1 Samuel 16:7

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t look at his appearance nor on the height of his stature, for I have rejected him. For the Lord doesn’t see as man; for the man looks with natural eyes, but the Lord sees the heart.”” (1 Samuel 16:7)

I am not the finest specimen of humanity. I am legally blind, five foot tall, and paralyzed from the neck down at the moment. My voice is weak, but Jesus called me to preach. I’m a bit quirky and definitely unique. That’s how others see me, and sometimes how I see myself. But that’s not what God sees.

David was ruddy and handsome, but not the one everyone sought out. He wasn’t even there when Samuel came to anoint the next king of Israel. He was stinky and dirty from being among his sheep.

Jesse’s first son looked kingly, whatever that means. But Israel made that mistake with Saul who stood head and shoulders above the rest. This time God would choose the next king of Israel.

God doesn’t look at you the way other people do. He sees your heart, your passion for him, and your willingness to serve. When others see a short blind person in me, God sees a giant in the faith. I’m not bragging. God sees that in all of us.

He knows what you are. And he knows who he is making you to be. You are mighty in his eyes, more than sufficient for his plan. He tailored your mission to you.

Action Step: Stand strong in who you are in Christ. He has made you for the purposes and plants he has for you. You are his child and he is delighted in who you are becoming.

Heavenly Father, when everyone else sees me in the physical you see me as a spiritual giant. Thank you for encouraging me and making me just the right person to fulfill your call in me. I know I will succeed with you in my corner.
