Legacy of Faith

August 14 | Genesis 5:22-24

“And Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 So all the days of Enoch were 365. 24 And Enoch walked with God, and he was not because God took him.” (Genesis 5:22–24)

Scripture is full of people of faith but not many of them had an incredibly intimate relationship with God as Adam, Enoch, Abraham, Moses, and David. They were so close to God the language of Hebrew expresses it in almost offputting words.

Moses spoke to God face-to-face (literally mouth-to-mouth). David had a heart after God’s own heart. Adam and Enoch walked with God. These were men worthy of the name, “Friend of God.”

Enoch left a legacy of faith like none other. People lived for a long time before the flood. But Enoch has one of the shortest entries in the genealogies. His life of 365 years was cut short because God took him from the earth. There’s no more information on how that happened.

But for the first 300 years of his life Methuselah watched his father walk with God. The way the text reads Enoch just disappears. God took Enoch because the world was not worthy of him. But look at his son’s life

It must be because of Enoch’s walk with God that Methuselah is the oldest living human being on the earth to date, at 969 years old. Why was his life so long? He understood how to walk with God because of Enoch. Whose life are you affecting for God’s Kingdom?
