March 18 | Isaiah 53:5
“And He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our sins. The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)
People call anyone who stands in their place or takes their penalty a scapegoat. You usually hear it in political talk. Politicians are getting away with crimes, and others take the fall. We are taught to hate the scapegoats they pin their crimes on.
But Jesus is also a scapegoat. Once a year Israel would take a goat and put all of their sins on it. They would send it into the wilderness, the literal scapegoat. Jesus takes your sins and your wounds, your sickness, and by his stripes provides healing.
He’s the scapegoat who brings your salvation and healing. He was pierced for your sins. Every one of your sins he took upon himself. Every sickness and disorder he heals. You are whole because Jesus was broken for you.
God’s judgment fell on the sinless Son of God who took your place. You are the one who should be pierced, crushed, and suffering the full cup of God’s wrath for your sins. But Jesus did it all. He paid your bill in full.
Action Step: Ask Jesus for healing in your body. He was whipped to bring your healing. Call on his name for wholeness in him. Your salvation and healing were bought at a high price.
Sweet Jesus, you took my sins and sickness on yourself. Heal my broken body. Mend my six soul. You are close to the brokenhearted. You provide everything to make me whole. May I walk in the fullness and freedom you paid such a high price to bring.
