April 16 | Joshua 6:1-2

“Now Jericho was closed up inside and outside because of the sons of Israel. None went out and none came in. And the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand and its king and mighty men of valor.” (Joshua 6:1–2)

When we approach a situation, we never know how it’s going to go. We don’t know the future. So we do our best with God’s wisdom to discern how we should act. Very rarely do we know the outcome. At any moment there could be a surprise.

But this was not so for Joshua when Israel arrived at Jericho. God told him exactly what would happen. Joshua already knew Jericho belonged to Israel. God will do the fighting. God would win the battle. And all Joshua and Israel had to do was obey him.

But what a battle plan! Walk around the city so many times and watch the walls come down. God’s plan made no sense. But you can’t count got out. He is the Divine Warrior who goes into the battle for you. You strive and strive on your own and get nowhere, and God just walks in and wins.

You need to trust God’s battle plan for you. He has never lost. He knows what he is doing even when it doesn’t make sense to you. God is working in the background and all you have to do is obey his crazy plan.

Action Step: Whatever you are facing today, trust the Lord to be your Divine Warrior and win the battle for you. Whenever he tells you to do something, no matter how strange, obey him and you will see victory.

King Jesus, I surrender my fight to you. I will stop striving in my own power and rely on your Holy Spirit’s power. No matter what you tell me to do, I will do it out of obedience. Thank you for the victory!
