Do animals go to heaven? What about our pets?

This is one issue no one can be sure about until we get to heaven. But we must start with whether or not animals have a soul. By “soul” I mean that part of us that is immortal or eternal. It is the part that goes to heaven when our mortal bodies stop working and died.

For some, the soul contains both the soul and spirit. Others believe that the soul and spirit are separate. The soul usually includes things like personality, attitude, reasoning, creativity, and the things that make you who you are. The spirit connects with spiritual beings like the Holy Spirit.

Everyone has a different take on this, but I believe that animals do have a soul. They have the ability to love, personality, instinct, and a will, to begin with. So I believe that animals do go to heaven. Plus, Scripture mentions animals in the new heavens and new earth (Isaiah 11:6; 65:25).

What about our pets? I think if animals are in heaven, we will know them. There’s no reason why our pets would not be there. And they would know us. Heaven will be a place of eternal bliss and for many humans, animals with the part of that enjoyment. There is no reason why we won’t be reunited with our pets when we get to heaven. God knows that having our pets again would make us very happy.
