A Beautiful Thing

March 27 | Matthew 26:12-13

“For in pouring this ointment on My body, she did it to prepare for My burial. Truly, I say to you, whenever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will also be spoken of in memory of her.” (Matthew 26:12–13)

There are so many differing practices of preparation for death throughout the world. Many of them have a spiritual significance. Death is a sensitive subject for many. And yet Jesus was being prepared for his death.

The disciples didn’t understand this event in his life. It’s one of the last things that happened to him in his ministry. This woman had the spiritual discernment to know Jesus was going toward his death.

He said that everyone who heard the gospel would remember this woman. She did a beautiful thing for him in his preparation. Jesus would be rushed to the cross that Good Friday morning and rushed to his borrowed tomb that evening.

There was no time to prepare his body in burial. They had to finish it before sundown, before the Passover and the Sabbath began. But his Father used this woman to prepare him. It was one of the few comforting moments before his hour came.

Action Step: What beautiful thing can you do for the Lord today? We often come to him asking for things. But part of our ministry to Jesus is blessing him in his presence.

Jesus, I want to bless you today. I live my life in your honor, to please you in everything I do. But more than that, what’s on your heart today? How can I put a smile on your face? I wait in your presence with open ears and a willing heart.
