“let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth, for your love is better than wine!” (Song of Solomon 1:2)

I compare you, my love, to a mare among Pharaoh’s chariots. Your cheeks are lovely with ornaments, your neck with a necklace of jewels.” (Song of Solomon 1:9–10)

Happy Valentine’s Day! Couples express their love in different ways. But one great way is to tell them. The Song of Solomon is filled with poetry between a couple. It begins with courtship and goes through marriage.

It’s a personal, but good start to discover how husband and wife shared poetry together. Each spouse should discover their personal touch to express their love through words and actions.

Words touch the heart and soul. Don’t be afraid to express your love to your spouse. It doesn’t have to be the most elegant poetry He or she has ever heard. But it has to communicate your feelings and commitment.

Use the Song of Solomon as a diving board. It can be as mushy as you want. These are words only for your spouse. Take today to enjoy one another, surprising and lavishing your love on them with thoughtful gifts.

Action Step: Express your love in new ways today to your spouse. Get creative in surprising them. Develop secret ways to lavish your love over them, something just between you. Even if it’s not your choice, show your commitment to them.

Jesus, bless my spouse with Your goodness and love toward them. Lavish Your grace upon them. Make this a special day where they feel Your provision and protection. Help me find ways to show my love for them.
