Wisdom from Above

April 13 | James 3:16-17

“For where there are jealousy and ambition, there is disorder and every wicked deed. But heavenly wisdom is first holy, then peaceful, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, genuine.” (James 3:16 –17)

Many operating systems have several ways to do the same thing. It gives people options, and most people only use one way. When I help people with their computers, some ask me if I know what I’m doing.

Wisdom is the engine for success. It shows us how to manage life and provides the solution for our problems. There are two types of wisdom, earthly and heavenly.

You may have some success with earthly wisdom. Doing things the world’s way can get you ahead in life. But your success is short-lived. When people cut corners, use shortcuts, and cheat, it always comes out. The world’s way is easier. They want easier ways instead of hard work. But God’s wisdom yields the best result long-term. It may be harder in the beginning, but it pays off in the end.

James calls earthly wisdom unspiritual and demonic. The devil controls this kind of thinking. Its end leads to destruction with suffering along the way. God’s wisdom comes from above and yields good food.

Action Step: Look at the ways people work. Some experiments great success, but how long will it last? What do people pay for the quick successes of earthly wisdom in the long-run?

Jesus, I want to have godly success. You have changed my heart, and I want to honor You. Teach me how to do things Your way. I know you eternally reward me for seeking Your Kingdom and being obedient.
