Overview
In Wisdom for Today, we want to look at the biblical books of Ecclesiastes, Proverbs, and James and discover how the wisdom in these books of the Bible helps us to have wisdom for today. Wisdom deals with knowing the right thing to do in your situation. It’s also about decision-making and how you confront the challenges of life. Our discussions of these books will always conclude with how we can use them in our lives today.

Week 1: What Is Wisdom? Proverbs: Introduction, Chapter 1 Wisdom in Proverbs
We lay the foundation for wisdom in the Bible and for today. Our study of Proverbs gives us an introduction to the book and we get started with Chapter 1. Every week, we will concentrate on applying wisdom of Proverbs for today.
Week 2: Proverbs: Chapters 2-9; Proverbs for Today
What’s the importance of following the right kind of wisdom? We continue in the first large section of the book of Proverbs. King Solomon teaches his son the ways of Lady Wisdom instead of following Lady Folly. We apply the lessons he teaches to our lives for today.
Week 3: Proverbs: Chapters 10-22:16, Proverbs for Today
How do we distinguish between situational Proverbs and forever Proverbs Solomon taught his son? Some seem to contradict others. We will cover a large portion of Proverbs, almost all of Solomon’s Proverbs for his son. We will apply some of these Proverbs for today.
Week 4: Proverbs: Chapters 22:17 -31; Proverbs for Today
We will finish looking at assorted Proverbs from other authors and more from Solomon. We will continue to look at how to apply Proverbs that seem to contradict one another to our lives.

What is the message of the book of Ecclesiastes? We discussed the introduction to the book, the first half of the book, and how we can apply the message of these he asked his today for wisdom in our lives.
Week 6: Ecclesiastes: Chapter 7-12, Ecclesiastes for Today
We will continue to track with the message and meaning of Ecclesiastes by discussing the second half of the book. What does it mean for today? What is the lasting impression the Teacher gives to us to apply to our lives?
Week 7: James: Introduction, Chapters 1-3a, James for Today
James is the book of the New Testament that best follows with the Old Testament wisdom books we have been discussing. We will look at an introduction to the book of James and look at the first half of the book. We’ll see the very practical wisdom James gives for today.
