November 7 | Colossians 1:9-11
“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy;” (Colossians 1:9–11, ESV)
What do you pray for when you pray for the people in your church? Paul founded many churches throughout his missionary journeys and ministry. His prayers seem so much deeper than many of our prayers today.
Paul prayed for the Colossians that they would walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. And then he describes what a worthy walk looks like. You fully please the Lord. You bear fruit in everything you do. You increase in knowing God, Facts about Him and your relationship with Him.
God strengthens you with all His power, so you can handle the trials before you. Jesus gives you the ability to endure these trials and be patient for their end. And as James told us, you can even have joy in the middle of your trial.
No one enjoys trials at the moment but God uses them to qualify you for His glorious inheritance. He is building you up, strengthening you for the good works He has prepared for you.
Action Step: Find ways to have joy in the midst of your trial. Think of what Jesus is doing in your character and faith. Pray Paul’s wonderful prayer for others.
Jesus, thank You for what You’re doing in me through this trial. Give me Your joy despite my circumstances. I need Your strength to endure it until the end. I only want to be found worthy of You.
