Unspeakable Joy

December 17 | Luke 1:43-45

Daily Bread

“But why is this granted to me that my Lord’s mother comes to me? For behold, as the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there will be a fulfillment of the words spoken to her from the Lord.”” (Luke 1:43–45)

Gabriel told Mary as another sign of nothing being impossible with God that Elizabeth, in her old age, was pregnant. God can make a woman past the age of child bearing pregnant. He can make a virgin pregnant too.

That gave her reason to visit Elizabeth in her unusual pregnancy.. She was carrying the forerunner to the Messiah who went before Jesus. The baby in her womb knew exactly who the baby in Mary’s womb was. That’s how Elizabeth knew Mary was carrying the Messiah. She says, “the mother of my Lordspoken and filled with the Spirit. God allowed them to know what He was doing. This was joy in pregnancy on steroids.

These two impossible pregnancies were unprecedented in human history. When God does the impossible it’s part of His incredible plan. The impossible gives birth to the incredible. Elizabeth blesses Mary because she carries the Lord, the Savior.

Mary and Elizabeth realized the significance of the moment God chose them to be a part of. He wants to do impossible things in your life. So when He taps on your shoulder be prepared for unspeakable joy!

Action Step: How would you respond to God’s impossible power in your life? What can you imagine that looks like?

Jesus, fill me with joy at the works of Your hands. I’m open to the impossible becoming possible. Turn the thoughts of my imagination into Your realities in my life. During this special season I seek Your will ..
