June 6 | Mark 16:17-18
“And these signs will accompany those who believe: in My name they will cast out demons, speak in new tongues, pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not injure them; they will lay hands on the invalid, and they will be well.” (Mark 16:17–18)
Everyone has a distinct look, a unique voice, and mannerisms they use. Put all of these together and they show we are like no one else. We see these things and think of that person.
Christians should expect to see these signs. But we have sadly learned not to expect them. Other Christians and scholars tell me, “These verses were probably not in the original manuscripts…” Even if they weren’t, these things happened in the New Testament.
They are part of the ministry of evangelism. The power of casting out demons brought people to Christ in Acts. When the apostles and disciples spoke in tongues in the Upper Room, three thousand people were added to Christ’s church.
Paul picked up a poisonous snake that bit him. When he didn’t die the island came to Christ. People laid their hands on the sick and they were healed. The same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in you. Stand in the authority and power of the Holy Spirit and see these things happen through you. How great is your faith?
Action Step: Believe that what the Bible says is possible through you. Ask God to use you in these ways that are extraordinary to us. Nothing is impossible for him.
Lord Jesus, empower me to see these great signs follow me as I trust in you. I believe what the Bible says about me. Use me to win souls to your kingdom through these extraordinary ways.
