The Spirit of the Lord

September 25 | Isaiah 11:2

“And the Spirit of the Lord will rest upon Him the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and strength, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord” (Isaiah 11:2)

Did you ever think you finally understood God? He is unsearchable. The closer we get to God the more we realize and appreciate His character and works. But we won’t understand God completely this side of heaven.

In Revelation John mentions the seven Spirits of God. He refers to the Holy Spirit. But why did John say it like that? Some say seven is the number of completeness and perfection. He completes God’s work in us. But others point to Isaiah 11:2 and see seven characteristics of the Holy Spirit.

He is the Spirit of the Lord. He is a Person who highlights and puts the Lord before Himself. He is the chief Evangelist proclaiming the truth about Jesus. He gives us wisdom to live life to honor God. But he also gives us skill and understanding to His ways. He is our connection to Jesus.

He counsels us what pleases the Lord. And He also gives us God’s strength to represent Him and work for His Kingdom. The Holy Spirit also gives us God’s divine knowledge to serve Him.

He is the Spirit of the fear of the Lord. Through him we understand how to worship God and revere His name and hold Him in high esteem all of our days.

Action Step: Worship the sevenfold Spirit of God. Everything He does ministers to and through you.

Holy Spirit, thank You for giving me Your wisdom and understanding. Your counsel brings me closer to God’s desires for me. You give me strength and knowledge to serve You. And by the fear of the Lord I worship You.
