August 10 | 1 Samuel 17:45-47
“Then David said to the Philistines, “You come to me with a sword and a spear and a javelin, but I myself come to you in the name of the Lord of Hosts, the daughter of the armies of Israel, whom you have defiled. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head from you, and I will give the carcasses of the armies of the Philistines to the birds of the air, and to the wild animals of the earth, and the whole earth will know that there is a God in Israel, and that this whole assembly may know that it’s not with sword or spear that the Lord saves, for the battle belongs to the Lord and He will give you into our hand.”” (1 Samuel 17:45–47)
If we don’t understand the battle we face we will taste defeat. All of Israel was paralyzed by his giant man. But David was incensed I his blasphemies against his Lord. Out of all of the men in the army of Israel a little shepherd boy acted for the Lord.
Don’t allow your mountain to paralyze you. Your Father’s power overwhelmingly defeats your enemies. But you must have David’s faith. This giant came to him in earthly splendor and power. But David fought with God’s power.
This was not a battle between a giant and a little man. This was a test of faith. David came with a staff and a few rocks. It wasn’t about the physical weaponry. It was about defending the Lord’s honor. When you understand the spiritual battle ahead, you use the right weapons.
Action Step: Understand the spiritual battlefield of your trial. Sharpen your spiritual weapons and the battle will belong to the Lord.
Lord Jesus, help me to wage the right kind of battle. I see the spiritual lay of the land. I give this battle into your hands.
