Sinless

March 24 | Job 1:20-22

Daily Bread

“Then Job arose and tore His cloak, and shaved His head, and fell to the ground, and worshiped. And He said, “Naked eye came from my mother’s womb and naked I will return there. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the Lord’s name.” In all this, Job did not sin or consider God wrong.” (Job 1:20–22)

A famous phrase states, “God doesn’t give you anything more than you can handle.” The Bible never says this. Take Job. His children were snatched from Him instantly. No parent just moves on from that.

How many of us can keep from sinning when these wretched things happen to us? I go before God (if I don’t lose it publicly first) and unleash my most volatile emotions on Him. I say things He doesn’t deserve to be accused of or listen to me say.

Are you like me? We’re only human. At least God understands, and I like to think He doesn’t hold you responsible for the things you say to Him. But not Job. Without knowing about Satan, he accepts God can remove His blessings even if we don’t deserve them.

Do you have a relationship with God like Job? He wasn’t okay with what happened to Him or His family. But His trust in God was so absolute that He realized He didn’t deserve the blessings. He let God be God.

Action Step: If you didn’t know about the spiritual realm and why we suffer adversity, would you react the way Job did? Reaffirm your absolute surrender to God’s perfect will and sovereignty.

Heavenly Father, I don’t know Your perfect plan for my life. I am in the middle of my story, and can’t see the end as You can. Forgive me for my outbursts and doubting Your absolute sovereignty. I surrender to You.
