April 29 | Ephesians 1:13-14
“In whom also you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also when you believed having been sealed with the promised Holy Spirit who is the down payment of our inheritance until the redemption of possession to the praise of his glory.” (Ephesians 1:13–14)
Every head of every government has his own personal seal, an image conveying his authority. It makes the contents authentic. In ancient times, kings had a signet ring placed upon hot wax that dried, and that seal proved its contents were from the king himself.
When Jesus saved you, he put his seal of authority on you. But this seal is like none other. It’s not just a representation of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is the Seal, God’s presence within you. He promised the Spirit as part of his new covenant.
He saved you by hearing his Word and believing in him. The Holy Spirit is very special. Some use the word guarantee, but it’s not meant to mean you are guaranteed heaven. Guarantee is a down payment that promises the rest will be paid off in the future.
The Spirit when he seals you is the down payment, the foretaste of your inheritance. His presence in you is just a small part of what will be forever. The Spirit wants you to know God’s presence in you all the time. So he dwells inside of you, giving you a glimpse of the great worth of your glorious inheritance.
Action Step: Pray to the Spirit and ask him for his guidance. He dwells in you, but many don’t realize his power and presence. Seek him as he walks with you. He is comes alongside you.
Holy Spirit, thank you for giving me a glimpse of your presence with me forever in heaven. Give me your power to live life victoriously for you today. Share your presence with me and guide me. Pour out your great gifts into me.
