Save for the Future

December 1 | Proverbs 21:20

“Desirable treasure and oil are in a wise man’s dwelling, but a
foolish man swallows it.
” (Proverbs 21:20)

In our American culture people are unconcerned with saving for the future. They would rather spend now and get what they want. Our nation is tens of trillions of dollars in debt, passing the buck on to the next generation.

But the Bible teaches us to save for the future. Those who are wise have stored up treasure and oil for the days when they will be needed. Emergencies happen. It’s hard for us to know future costs. It’s better to have when you are in need then to have spent it.

It’s part of our Christian perspective to look to the future. We don’t live for today. Not all our blessings come today. We are storing up treasures in heaven, not on this earth. All of this points to saving for the future. We may suffer persecution and trial now but our inheritance is for later.

One way you can further your future and plan for it is to learn how to save a little bit now. Though it hurts to see not as much money in your checking account now, try saving 10% after giving 10% to the Lords work. The Lord will provide all your needs when you pay Kingdom principles forward.

Action Step: Save for the future and your storehouses will prepare you for emergencies and days you cannot foresee. The Lord wants to provide through your wisdom.

Jesus, teach me to look to the future and prepare for it. Make me a good and godly steward of all Your blessings given to me. May I glorify You with my finances.
