December 23 | Luke 2:30-32
“for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.”” (Luke 2:30–32, ESV)
So many generations of Jews from the time of Isaiah’s prophecy about the Messiah passed without seeing Him. But two people in Israel knew exactly who Jesus was and what He came to do. The greatest gift for these elderly individuals was meeting the Messiah before they died.
Simeon was so in tune with the Spirit of God that he knew the Messiah was in his midst. He cried out with Thanksgiving to the Lord for giving him the opportunity to see the Messiah. He described his experience as seeing a light for the Gentiles and glory for the Jewish people.
Anna was a prophetess also in tune with the Spirit. She couldn’t stop talking about Jesus to everyone in the Temple. These people who lived full lives realized what God was doing. And their hearts were full of gratitude for the opportunity to see Jesus.
This Christmas season what are you grateful for? Jesus is the greatest gift to you and the world. Young or old, do you appreciate God’s gift to you? Jesus came at the opportune time to spread the good news of His arrival. And in God’s time you discovered Jesus.
Action Step: Today is the best time to share Jesus with everyone you meet. Follow the Spirit’s leading as you go about your day. Look for opportunities to share Jesus during Christmas.
Jesus, my heart is full. I am so blessed that You came to save me. Give me a heart for the people around me. Let me see them as You see them. Bring Your light and glory through me to others this Christmas.
