Responding to the Word

June 2 | Jonah 3:4-5

“Then Jonah began to go into the city one day’s distance, and he cried out and said, “Only forty days, and Nineveh will be overturned!” Now the people of Nineveh believed in God and they called for a fast and they put on sackcloth from the greatest of them to the least of them..” (Jonah 3:4–5)

Radio is a powerful tool almost nobody uses anymore. But there are programs where people can hear the gospel and learn about Jesus through the radio. Many people can listen to the gospel message without paying a dime.

Although many of us do not use the radio with the advent of podcast and internet radio, many people listen to the radio around the world. It’s incredible when you think about easy it is for a person to press a button and hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Ninevites had a prophet come and preach to them God’s message of judgment for their rebellion. This sounds like an old school fire and brimstone message but it got results. The people turned to God and repented. They were serious about it, calling for a fast and weeping over their wickedness.

The gospel has great power when it is spoken. When you tell others about Jesus it leaves an indelible mark on them. They must address what they are going to do with Jesus. So like Jonah you must take the opportunity to preach to others when you get it.

Action Step: Don’t ever be afraid to tell others your story about how Jesus has changed your life. God can use it in powerful ways. He can save souls just by you sharing your faith.

Jesus, make me a great soul winner for your kingdom. Give me the right times and the right ways to share my faith with others. I want to tell people about how you have saved my life and redeemed me.
