April 6 | Daniel 1:8

Daily Bread

“But Daniel set in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king’s food or with the wine he drank. So he asked the leader of the eunuchs
that he not defile himself.
” (Daniel 1:8)

Do you follow pre-made decisions no matter the outcome? Some people adjust as the situation unfolds. Others stick with their decisions no matter what happens. When I was a teenager, I made plans to withstand temptation when I dated. I followed these plans to the letter.

Daniel was that person. He refused to let situations change His mind. It wasn’t just an iron will. The Lord helped him in this foreign land. He had high standards. Scholars have many theories about why the king’s food and wine would to file Daniel.

Perhaps God wanted to prove a point through Daniel. The Babylonians thought they had to eat these things to stay healthy and strong. Daniel knew you only need God to give you your strength. He refused to give in, and God blessed Him for it.

You here many voices throughout your day. Most of them are how the world thinks. You know God’s wisdom is better. You have opportunities like Daniel to show the world God’s wisdom is better than their wisdom.

Action Step: Read your Bible and let the Holy Spirit teach you God’s wisdom and ways. Offer a different perspective to your coworkers, family, and friends.

Lord Jesus, help me walk in Your wisdom today. Show me how to honor exalt You at work, school, family gatherings, and anyone I meet. I want to do what You have for me to do. I resolved to follow Your ways.
