Living a Grace-Paced Life in a Burnout Culture

I didn’t have any great reasons for starting to read this book. Actually, the only reason I started to read it was because the audiobook was available for free on my account. I am so glad I started reading it. It is an excellent resource especially for men, but there is a version for women written by his wife.

The author begins by talking about how Christians need to reset they’re crazy lives I learned how to rest. He describes five deficits of grace. The author wrote this book for Christian man. He organizes his book on repair bays instead of chapters.

Repair Bay 1 is a Reality check. The author had to learn through a life-threatening blood clotting medical issue that God wanted him to just slow down. He wants to help other Christian man who are headed toward a burn out. This chapter is designed for you to take stock of your life. He gives warning lights from physical two mentor too relational to spiritual. He gives you a way to understand when you are in the red.

Repair Bay 2 is Review. Without an in-depth review, you will end up in a place you cannot understand how you got there. Many of our problems stem from wrong views about God. We are complex creatures and we don’t always have a simple answer. He goes through Number of factors that affect us. There are lifestyle factors we can change.

Repair Bay 3 is Rest. He talks about sleep and having threatened it is for us. He goes through what not getting enough sleep does to us. It has so many connections to everything we do and is a very theological subject as well. God designed us and knows what we need.

Repair Bay 4 is Recreate. We need recreation. The author describes some of the important traits about the gospel that help us in our recreation. He goes through a theology of the body found in Scripture. He gives advice on exercise and manual labor that help our bodies stay in shape and keep our energy up.

Repair Bay 5 is Relax. The author begins by talking about all the noise in our minds and around us. How can we be still And Know That he is God when our environment is so loud. He offers some help for those who digest too much media. He gives some guidelines that real help you to rest.

Repair Bay 6 is Rethink. The author addresses how we are placing everything we do with an identity we make for ourselves. We should understand ourselves first in our Christian identity. Repair Bay 7 is Reduce. All the things in our life that cause stress can be alleviated. He looks at our ways of thinking about life. He looks at how to prune your life to be efficient. This is the gem of this book. The author helps you to see how you can be most effective every day.

Repair Bay 8 is Refuel. He talks about the theology of dieting and food. Energy and things that drain us are big topics throughout this chapter. Repair Bay 9 is Relate. He describes five relationships we must nourish. He gives tips and pointers on how to grow these relationships. Repair Bay 10 is Resurrect. Those who go through these repair bays in this garage receive newness of life. They experience the power of a reset.

I was just looking for the next book to read. I had no idea how valuable this book is for Christian men and liters who need to change the way they are living so they don’t burn out. I highly recommend this book to any man who need to reset but doesn’t know how to go about doing it. This is an invaluable resource for Christian men who can’t figure out why their life is so strained.
