Renewing Your Strength

March 9 | Isaiah 40:31

Daily Bread

“But those who wait for the Lord will renew their strength; they will ascend with wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

Some people concern themselves with physical fitness and health. They are always in the gym, working on all their muscles to make them bigger. Other people are health nuts. They are consumed with every new diet and food fad out there.

It’s important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but they take it to the max. The kind of strength Isaiah talks about is different. It is the strength to get by every day, to handle everything that comes at you in life. It helps us accomplish our goals for each day.

Have you ever experienced a sudden loss of strength? It’s like you lose the ability to lift anything. Some people describe it as running out of gas. As you get older, you sometimes have a loss of strength. But God speaks through Isaiah that those who make it their goal to wait on Him will renew their strength.

Martin Luther said, “I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.” Waiting on the Lord is not easy. We are impatient. But when we wait on the Lord, listening for His voice and communing with Him, we experience an inner peace and strength that infuses us with God’s power.

Action Step: What do you need strength to do today? Start your day with prayer and waiting on the Lord. He will give you the strength you need.

Mighty Jesus, I need Your strength for everything I must accomplish today. Show me Your glory as I start my day with You. Help me wait patiently in Your presence and go before me.
