Day 13: Prayer Focus: Prayer Partner’s Financial Blessing | Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
We’ve talked a lot about our nation and the troubles we have right now. Israel was in a worse place, exiled to Babylon because they broke God’s covenant and lost the land He graciously gave them. I love the Old Testament prophets because they speak the truth and the reality of the situation, but they also put glimmers of hope in their prophecies.
As you pray for your prayer partner today, understand that the Lord wants to bless His children. You can go too far with prosperity, wealth, and health. But I think most of us don’t go far enough. God is our heavenly Father. He wants us to live well and represent Him well.
As long as we don’t forget that we work for His Kingdom, that this world is not our home, and we are looking for a better home than this, we can accept His lavish grace, and a wealth of inheritance we cannot gain on our own. God wants His children to be healthy and experience a taste of the inheritance and blessings we have coming soon.
Pray for blessing of all kinds. Pray for financial, emotional, spiritual, and physical blessing, God has great plans for each of us. We have a hope and future because of Jesus. Every good and perfect gift comes down from our heavenly Father (James 1:17). Don’t spend too much time in the, “Woe is me” and the, “God’s giving me the grace to get through the day” gospel too long. That is no good news for the children of the King.
The greatest blessings are the verses that follow God’s promise of these great plans for us. After that, He tells us he hears us when we call for His help (v. 12) and that we will find Him when we seek Him with all our heart (v. 13). It’s time we rethink what blessing and prosperity really mean. It’s not about money or extra resources. The true blessing and prosperity comes when we realize our privileged place in God’s family.
God’s blessing doesn’t only come in financial wealth. It comes in knowing Him more, and finding Him when we seek Him. Paul talks about the many spiritual blessings God pours out on us from salvation in our walk with Him (Ephesians 1:3-14). God’s true blessing comes in giving us contentment despite her situation in this world. All the Beatitudes are about blessing that comes in the future. Let us walk the path God has chosen for us in this world, and not forget that He blesses us by taking care of every need.
