Open Their Hearts

Day 14: Prayer Focus: Unsaved Loved Ones | Revelation 3:20

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20)

I like how one preacher described God as the “Hound of Heaven.” He searches for us and finds us. He makes us His children. God does all the work in our salvation and growing into His holiness for our lives. But He uses our prayers as He softens the heart of the unsaved. We often use Revelation 3:20 in a general sense for believers and unbelievers.

But when John penned these words, it was to believers. He wrote this to one of the seven churches. But we could easily apply it to unbelievers. Jesus knocks on every heart’s door. His only interest is to have a relationship with us. He longs for the moment we open that door and let Him in.

When we pray for our unsaved loved one and ask God to reach them where they are, sometimes where no one else can reach them, God answers our prayers. He becomes the Hound of Heaven for those closest to us. Sometimes when we talk to family we are not very successful. They don’t want to hear what we have to say.

It is best to pray first that God will open their hearts to receive the gospel from someone else. Second, we need to pray that the Holy Spirit will get a hold of them. Finally, we pray that God would send others when we cannot be heard because of her closeness to them. God has many tools at His disposal. We just must be faithful to pray and seek Him for our unsaved friends and family. You are only cruel if you don’t pray that God will move in their life in powerful ways.

Prayer Points

  • That God would move powerfully in our unsaved loved ones’ lives and make Himself real to them
  • That God would reveal Hymns in unmistakable ways to our unsaved loved ones
  • That God would open doors no one can shut, and become real to those we witness two
  • That God would become a holy terror to our unsaved loved ones and they won’t be able to get His voice out of their hands and hearts
