May 21 | Joel 2:28-29
““And it will happen afterward that I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your elders will dream dreams, your young men will see visions and even upon your manservants and your maidservants in that day I will pour out My Spirit.” (Joel 2:28–29)
I hate waiting for packages to come in the mail. Even when I have a tracking number I have watched the date and time of reception be pushed back further and further. The Lord must be working on my patience.
If you think you are waiting a long time for packages in the mail imagine how long Old Testament saints waited for the Lord to fulfill Joel’s prophecy about the Spirit coming upon everyone. From their perspective God’s Spirit only rested on certain people for a while.
But God is saying he will pour out his Spirit on all people no matter their station in life. In case you aren’t sure if God fulfills his promises, on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2 he fulfilled this prophecy. The apostles and disciples in the Upper Room were baptized in the Holy Spirit.
You also can receive the Holy Spirit in a greater way even than when he sealed you at salvation (Ephesians 1:13-14). It doesn’t matter who you are. Jesus wants to pour out the Holy Spirit in your life upon you. All you have to do is ask and lead to receive him and everything he has for you
Action Step: Thank the Lord that he fulfills every promise he gives. Ask him to fill you with his Holy Spirit and a more powerful way than you’ve ever experienced before.
Lord Jesus, send your Holy Spirit to me in a powerful way. I want to know you more deeply than ever before. I seek you for the promised Holy Spirit, from more of him in my life. I wait on you and I know you will fulfill your promise.
